Coach Dan Monson held his third annual “Battle at the Beach”  team tournament (camp) at the Walter Pyramid during early August.  A total of 28 local travel ball and high school basketball teams took to the court during this two day event.  Having this many teams all at one location gave parents, fans, and of course the LBSU coaching staff, an opportunity to watch some pretty impressive basketball.

In addition to the quality of play, the timing of this event could not have been any better since Shelton Boykin, a Long Beach Poly High School standout, gave a verbal commitment to the LBSU coaching staff only days in advance.  This gave the local sporting community an opportunity to come out and watch Shelton play at his future home.

As if having Boykin there was not enough, another potential 49er recruit, Deonta Burton, was also at the Mid playing for his Centennial High School team.  It has been reported that Deonta might wait until the spring to sign, but it appears he is currently leaning towards signing with the 49ers.
