W-Tennis 08-09

Wow, what more can one say when talking about the woman’s tennis program at Long Beach State. The 2009 version brought home, yet again, another Big West Conference championship. That makes six, yes I mean six in a ROW for head coach Jenny Hilt-Costello. It is hard too believe that this program can maintain this type of consistency when one factors in how competitive and complicated the Southern California marketplace is.

The scaring thing for teams opposing LBSU this season is that the current version could quit possibly be last season’s team on steroids. You may ask how can a championship team improve that much? Well, by returning the majority of its core players, and then throwing in the nation’s 23rd ranked recruiting class. This combination of proven players and highly sought after freshman, might be just enough to bring on some preseason coverage. Can anyone say Berkeley?
