Tigers slip by 49ers
Women’s Soccer: Preventable goal stretches Long Beach State’s losing streak to three.
The friendly confines of George Allen Field was not enough as the 49ers continue their losing streak in a 1-0 loss to the Pacific Tigers.
This game, as it has been for a large part of the season, the young 49er squad could not find the back of the net. What made matters worse is that the Beach had a slight advantage in shot attempts (8-7), but had many more quality opportunities through their 10-2 advantage in corner kicks.
“I was hoping to be ahead offensively, “ 49ers coach Ingrassia said. “We didn’t have any clarity up front. We lacked the final pass, that extra play in the front third of the field. We need to be able to create things.”
The loss was made even more frustrating since the lone goal was a preventable one; 49er goalie was positioned to prevent the score.
“When you get two hands on it you are supposed to stop it, but it happens sometimes,” Ingrassia said.
The 49ers’ continue their home stand with a match against UC Davis on Sunday. The Aggies are one of the Big West Conference’s surprise teams coming into the match with a record of 5-2-1.
