Rally falls short
The Long Beach State women’s basketball team’s late game rally was not enough as they fall to Loyola Marymount 75-70.
Behind a furious late game surge, the Long Beach State women’s basketball team made a game once out of reach into a nail biter; the team trailed by as many as 19 early in the second half.
Seniors Karina Figueroa (21 pts) and Lauren Sims (14 pts) led The Beach in scoring, while Alley Wade controlled the boards recording 8 rebounds.
Again what plagued the 49ers were spurts of turnovers and not rotating on defense fast enough, the Lions knocked down 13 shots behind the arc.
A lot of the 3s came on transition, we didn’t get back … and find the shooter,” Coach Jody Wynn said. “Our defensive intensity as a unit was never where it needed to be. We’ve got to do a better job defending the 3-point shot, that’s for sure.
The Beach now embarks on a couple of two game road trips. This week the team plays at New Mexico State and Texas-Pan America, and then travels to the University of Miami for a couple of games in a tournament setting.
