Sweeping Da Gauchos

The women’s basketball team from Long Beach State sweep the regular season series from UCSB with a spirited late game come back. The 49er sweep was the first one in nearly 20 years.

LONG BEACH – The Long Beach State women’s basketball team erased a 13-point deficit with just over six minutes to play in a thrilling 65-62 comeback victory over UC Santa Barbara Saturday evening at the Walter Pyramid.

With the win, the 49ers completed their first season sweep over the Gauchos since the 1990-91 season. LBSU had defeated UCSB, 78-63, in the previous meeting at The Thunderdome on Jan. 14.

Senior Karina Figueroa led The Beach with a game-high 24 points, marking her second consecutive 20-point performance. Figueroa also had a team-best six assists.

Junior Melanie Lisnock chipped in 14 points, while senior Ally Wade netted 11 points, six rebounds and three steals. Senior Lauren Sims also finished with 11 points.
