LBSU falls to UCSB

The Long Beach State women’s basketball team’s season ends with a 73-50 loss to the UCSB Gauchos during the Big West Tournament.

ANAHEIM, Calif. – The third time was the charm for UC Santa Barbara as the Gauchos handed the Long Beach State women’s basketball team a 73-50 loss in the Big West Tournament quarterfinals Thursday afternoon at the Anaheim Convention Center.

The 49ers had swept the Gauchos during the regular season, but have now come up short in the last eight Big West Tournament meetings with UCSB.

The Beach trailed by only five at the half, but suffered from a 19.4 field goal percentage (6-for-31) in the second period, finishing the game at 29.3 percent. The Gauchos, meanwhile, went 28-of-57 (49.1 percent) from the field and outrebounded LBSU, 46-29.

Senior Karina Figueroa led Long Beach State with 18 points and four assists, while classmate Ally Wade finished with 10 points and a team-high five rebounds. Junior Ashley Bookman chipped in eight points and four rebounds.
