The match started out well with The Beach in possession of the ball for the majority of the first 15 minutes, but a defensive breakdown gave the Aztecs from San Diego State an opportunity that they did not waste, scoring in the 17th minute. From there the 49ers continued to control the ball, but yet again another defensive breakdown led to another first half score for the Aztecs. The young ladies from Long Beach State continued to battle and finally found the back of the net in the 59th minute; however, this was not enough as the 49ers suffered a 2-1 exhibition loss to San Diego State.

LONG BEACH – The Long Beach State women’s soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to San Diego State in an exhibition game Saturday evening at George Allen Field.
Senior Lindsay Bullock scored the 49ers’ lone goal in the second half. Bullock finished the game with three shots, all of which came on target. Senior Karina Camacho and sophomore Nadia Link also had three attempts each.
Although LBSU dominated possession in the first half, SDSU found the back of the net on both of its shots. Haley Palmer put the Aztecs on the board in the 17th minute as she scored on a lead pass from Zoe Carroll. San Diego State then struck again at the 33:29 mark when Soledad Gomez found Sarah Halverson on the left side, who knocked one in off the right post.
Trailing 2-0, the 49ers continued to put pressure on the SDSU defense in the second period. Bullock was eventually able to cut the deficit in half as she scored at the 58:22 mark. Camacho sent a corner kick into the box where Bullock headed the ball toward the right post, but the initial shot was saved by Aztec goalkeeper Aubree Southwick. The rebound, however, went off an SDSU defender and right back to Bullock as she headed the ball into an open net.
LBSU out shot San Diego State, 13-4, and also held the edge in corner kicks, 5-1.
Long Beach State officially kicks off the season next Friday (Aug. 20) when it plays host to BYU in a 5 p.m. non-conference showdown at George Allen Field.
